Dominican Republic shows fire power

MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 19, 2010 – The defending champions Dominican Republic dominated Barbados in straight sets (25-6, 25-9, 25-6) improving its mark to 2-0 in Pool A of the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games’ women’s volleyball tournament. The defeated side fell to 0-2.

Dominicans Prisilla Rivera and Gina Mambru each scored 10 points while compiling 5 aces apiece. Annerys Vargas and Lisvel Eve contributed 9 and 8 points respectively to the win.

“It was another day of work for us and we played with responsibility and respecting the other team,” Dominican Republic’s coach Marcos Kwiek said. “Our teams are in different levels but nobody starts from the top so they have to continue working hard. Tomorrow will be another step for us.”

“We respect all the teams but also try to play our best,” Dominican Milagros Cabral said. “Our team played focused and everyone played hard.”
